Encouragement vs nagging in habit apps: where dailio draws the line
The line between accountability and nagging is tone, timing, and consent. dailio is a social habit tracker experimenting with social signals that cheer without policing—especially while we are in development and can still remove patterns that feel wrong before launch.
Principles we use
- Affirmation over surveillance—friends see what they need, not everything.
- No guilt-trip defaults in reminders or social prompts.
- Easy boundaries if someone needs space from shared habits.
Why this matters for retention (and for humans)
Harsh accountability spikes short-term opens and kills long-term honesty. We want people to keep logging truthfully for months—especially for daily habits like movement, sleep prep, or creative practice.
